This past weekend I joined in a booksigning with two friends at one of South Florida's few independent and its only mystery-specific bookstore, Murder on the Beach in Delray Beach, FL. Nancy J. Cohen,V.S. Alexander (Michael Meeske) and I have been friends and members of our various writing groups together for quite a number of years now, and I believe it's safe to say we have each contributed to the success and sanity of one another.
Nancy and I signed our most recent releases, FACIALS CAN BE FATAL, and A PINCH OF POISON, respectively, while V.S. signed his debut historical fiction release, THE MAGDALEN GIRLS.
What each of our books has in common are strong female protagonists. Store manager Joanne Sinchuk led our panel with some provocative questions, such as how the time period in which our protagonists live affects her strength of character and her ability to prevail against adversity; how our characters change over time; and what each of us has learned in writing our books.
A lively conversation with our audience ensued with lots of fun and interesting questions.
And friends from the Florida Romance Writers and the Mystery Writers of America-Florida chapter came to cheer us on. The South Florida writing community is a close-knit and supportive one, and I'm very lucky to be part of it!
It's always fun to get together with other writers and readers, because what's better than spending an afternoon talking books with friends? To find out where else I'll be speaking this spring, check my News & Events page.
